The Nigeria U-20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, secured a 1-0 victory over host nation Poland U-20 Women’s National Team in their first warm-up match ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The encounter provided another important test for the Nigerian side as they continue their preparations for the global tournament.

Both teams started the game with good intensity, pressing and looking for opportunities at both ends of the pitch. Nigeria remained focused and continued to push forward as they searched for the opening goal.

The breakthrough finally came in added time at the end of the first half when Mamudu Mary found the back of the net to give the Falconets a 1-0 lead going into the break.

The Falconets also had opportunities to extend their lead but could not add another goal before the final whistle.

After full time, Nigeria secured a deserved 1-0 victory over the host nation, giving the team an important boost in confidence ahead of the World Cup.

Even with the win, the game showed areas the Falconets need to work on. The coaches will now fix the mistakes, improve the team’s tactics, and step up training ahead of the World Cup.

The victory over Poland marks another important step in Nigeria’s preparations, but the Falconets will now turn their attention to their upcoming international friendly matches.

Nigeria’s first scheduled international friendly will be against South Korea U-20 on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The match will be played at the Remes Resort & Spa Football Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 3:00 PM Nigerian time.

The match against South Korea will be another big test for the Falconets. It will also give the coaches a chance to check the squad, improve performance, and build confidence before the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
