Tallying down to the 14th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to engage long-time rivals, Ghana’s Black Queens, in a high-profile international friendly in Casablanca, Morocco.
The encounter forms part of the Falcons’ final build-up to the continental showpiece, with Head Coach Justin Madugu leading the squad as more players arrive in camp. Newly signed Inter Milan midfielder Toni Payne has linked up with the team, increasing the number of players in camp to eleven.
Already settled at the team’s base, Hotel Marriott in Casablanca, are key figures including Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie and Fatima Oloko, Defenders Oluwatosin Demehin, Glory Ogbonna, Shukurat Oladipo and Rofiat Imuran, alongside midfielder Jennifer Echegini and Forward Asisat Oshoala.
The friendly match against the Black Queens will take place at the Stade El Arbi Zaouli, with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 pm. The fixture rekindles a historic rivalry, dating back to the inaugural edition of the competition in 1998, where Nigeria defeated Ghana in the final on home soil.
Following the test against Ghana, the Super Falcons will continue their preparations with additional fixtures, including a clash with Malawi on July 28. Attention will then shift fully to Group C action, where Nigeria is scheduled to face Zambia on August 1 and Egypt on August 5.
With stakes higher than ever, the tournament also serves as a qualification pathway to the FIFA Women’s World Cup. All four semi-finalists in Morocco will secure automatic qualification for the 2027 finals in Brazil, while the fifth-placed team will advance to an intercontinental playoff tournament.
The Super Falcons keep moving with the ultimate aim of reclaiming continental glory and securing a place on the global stage.
