The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership champions, Edo Queens, have arrived in Burkina Faso ahead of the 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
The Benin City-based club secured the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership title under the guidance of Moses Aduku, who also doubles as the Head Coach of the Nigeria’s U20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, currently preparing for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Edo Queens departed Nigeria with a 21-player squad for the continental assignment. The team is led by Kennedy Boboye, who serves as the stand-in Technical Adviser, alongside Coach Gabriel Benson as the technical crew prepares the champions for another demanding campaign on the continent.
The Queens have previous WAFU B experience, having won the 2024 qualifiers. That run set them up for a CAF Women’s Champions League semi-final appearance before their exit against FC Masar of Egypt.
Following their successful domestic campaign, the Queens intensified preparations for the qualifiers through a series of training sessions, tactical lectures and competitive friendly matches against some of Nigeria’s leading women’s football clubs, including FC Robo Queens.
The club also strengthened its squad ahead of the competition with the addition of promising young talents. Among the new arrivals is Olukemi Adegbuyi, a player who has represented Nigeria at U17 level. The club’s recruitment drive further underlines its determination to build a squad capable of competing strongly on the regional stage.
The two-time NWFL Premiership champions have been drawn in Group B alongside defending champions ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire, Ampem Darkoa of Ghana, and AS GNN of Niger.
The team will open against AS GNN of Niger on Sunday 23rd, before a massive clash with defending champions ASEC Mimosas on Thursday 27th. The group stage will wrap up with a West African derby against Ampem Darkoa of Ghana on Sunday 30th.
Edo Queens have several players who played for Nigeria at U17 and U20 level. With a mix of experienced and young players, the team will be hoping to turn their local success into another strong performance in Africa.
The Nigerian champions now face the task of navigating a competitive group and securing qualification for the next stage of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League, with the ultimate ambition of once again representing Nigeria on the African stage.
Edo Queens are fully concentrated on regional glory having conquered the domestic scene, as they continue the preparation to begin their quest to reclaim the WAFU B crown and take another step forward in the history of the continental success.
