Super Falcons Midfielder Deborah Abiodun has praised the resilience and unity of the Nigerian team following their hard-fought victory, describing the result as a testament to the squad’s determination despite playing with 10 women for a significant part of the match.

Reflecting on the encounter, Abiodun admitted it was a difficult contest, particularly after the team was reduced to 10 players following a first-half red card.

She, however, commended the collective effort of the players for holding on and securing Nigeria’s first win of the tournament.

“It was a tough fight, especially after we got a red card in the first half,” Abiodun said. “I’m proud of the team’s effort in securing our first win of the tournament. Everyone contributed both the players on the pitch and those on the bench. We all came into the game with one objective, which was to move forward and make Nigeria proud, as always.”

The midfielder acknowledged that losing a key player early in the game presented a major challenge but noted that the squad responded with remarkable teamwork and discipline.

“Going into the second half with one player down was a real test for us because she’s an important part of the team. But our team spirit came to life. Everyone had to work harder, make extra tackles and cover more ground in their respective positions. That unity made the difference.”

Abiodun also reserved special appreciation for Nigerian supporters whose encouragement, she said, inspired the team throughout the match.

“We appreciate every fan who took out time to support us. We hope to see even more supporters behind the team as the tournament progresses. We also hope there will be greater broadcast coverage for African women’s football because the game continues to grow and deserves more visibility.”
