DEBORAH ABIODUN EXTENDS WASHINGTON SPIRIT CONTRACT THROUGH 2028

The Super Falcons Midfielder Deborah Abiodun has signed a new two-year contract with Washington Spirit, extending her stay at the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club through 2028, with a mutual option for 2029.

The club announced the extension on Friday, rewarding the midfielder for her development and contributions since joining ahead of the 2025 season.

Abiodun initially spent time away on loan before being recalled in August 2025, subsequently becoming an important part of Washington Spirit’s squad during its run to the NWSL Championship.

She has made 21 appearances, recording one goal and one assist.

Expressing her delight, the 22-year-old described Washington as her home and said she was eager to continue contributing to the club’s success.

Abiodun made her Super Falcons debut in September 2022 and has represented Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games.

She was also part of the squad that won the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, securing Nigeria’s 10th continental title.

Before signing for Washington Spirit, Abiodun played two standout seasons at Pitt, making 34 appearances for the Panthers with 10 goals and 3 assists. She earned All-ACC honors in both seasons — All-Freshman and Third Team in 2023, and Second Team in 2024.
