Super Falcons and Washington Spirit Midfielder Deborah Abiodun has taken a positive step in her recovery from a hip injury after resuming gym sessions as she works towards regaining full fitness.

The Nigerian International underwent successful surgery in September following a hip injury that forced her out of action for the remainder of the 2026 season. Washington Spirit subsequently placed the midfielder on the season-ending injury list on September 7, 2026.

Abiodun stepping back into gym work is another positive step in her recovery, with a return to match action dependent on how she responds to the next phases of rehab.

The midfielder had made nine appearances for Washington Spirit in 2026 before the injury, four as a starter, for a total of 320 minutes.

Her absence also ruled her out of Nigeria’s Olympic qualifying fixtures against Comoros this month, leaving the Super Falcons short in midfield.

Even so, getting back to fitness work is an encouraging sign as she focuses on rebuilding and working towards a return to the pitch.

For Washington Spirit and Nigeria, the emphasis remains on a full and careful recovery before she is cleared to play again.
