Nigeria U-17 Women’s National Team Head Coach Hakeem Busari has expressed confidence in the Flamingos’ readiness for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, highlighting the team’s progress, discipline and enthusiasm ahead of the tournament in Morocco.

Speaking ahead of the competition, Busari explained that the team’s development has been built on thorough talent identification, the introduction of his football philosophy and the importance of passion, discipline and mental strength.

According to the Coach, guiding young players requires more than technical training, as counselling, correction and proper mentorship are also essential to helping them understand their responsibilities both on and off the pitch.

Busari believes these principles have contributed to the Flamingos’ steady improvement, adding that the players are enthusiastic about representing Nigeria on the global stage.
“The team is getting better every day,” he said, expressing confidence in the players’ commitment and passion for the game.

Looking ahead to the group stage, the Flamingos coach acknowledged the quality of the teams competing at the World Cup, noting that every participant would have earned its place through qualification and preparation.

He stressed that Nigeria would approach every opponent with respect, while maintaining confidence in the quality of the squad.
“We are not looking down on any team, neither are they looking down on us,” Busari said, emphasising the mutual respect among competing nations.

The Coach also highlighted discipline as one of the key values being instilled in the young players. He explained that the technical crew focuses on guidance rather than bullying, recognising that the players come from different family backgrounds and may respond differently to instructions.

Busari believes this approach has helped create a positive environment for the team’s development as they prepare for the demands of international football.
He also called on Nigerians, football supporters and the Nigeria Football Federation to continue supporting the team with prayers and encouragement throughout the competition.

The Flamingos will begin their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign against Poland on 17 October in Morocco, with the team aiming to translate its preparations into strong performances on the world stage.
