In a heartwarming show of sportsmanship and solidarity, some players from Nigeria’s Super Falcons paid a hospital visit to Banyana Banyana star Gabriela Salgado on Wednesday, following her serious injury during Tuesday’s high-stakes WAFCON semifinal clash between South Africa and Nigeria.

Salgado, who was stretchered off late in the second half at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, suffered a fracture of the mid-shaft of her left leg after an accidental collision. She underwent successful surgery at the Mohamed VI University Hospital in Casablanca and is currently recovering under close medical supervision.

“Gabi will be out of action for the rest of the year,” confirmed Dr Lindi Mokoena, Banyana Banyana’s team doctor. “We’re grateful for the exceptional care provided by the hospital staff, CAF medical officials, and the South African team doctors. We are confident in the procedure and thankful to the Moroccan medical team for their professionalism.”
The entire Banyana Banyana team visited their teammate on Tuesday night following her stabilization. Messages of support have since poured in from across the continent and beyond, including one from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“Today, our thoughts are with @G_Salgado9. Gabriela, you are a woman of faith, bravery, and skill. The nation stands with you. We are proud of Banyana Banyana and remain confident they will return stronger.
