Ahead of the highly anticipated double-legged showdown against the indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifier, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie exudes unwavering confidence in her team’s readiness.
In a recent press conference held in preparation for the clash scheduled for Friday, February 23rd, 2024, at Douala’s Stade de la Reunification, Nandozie, the Paris FC shot-stopper, emphasized the team’s mental fortitude and readiness for the challenge.
“We’ve talked about this game a lot, knowing from day one that we would face Cameroon. We’ve been working so hard and we are mentally strong,” Nandozie affirmed.
Acknowledging Cameroon’s formidable squad, she added, “Cameroon is a very good side with exceptional players whom we respect, but tomorrow, we have to come out strong. We are confident. I believe in our team, and we are ready to play this game tomorrow.”
Reflecting on Nigeria’s prolonged absence from the Olympic stage, Nandozie, the reigning best goalkeeper in Africa, emphasized the team’s focus on the present opportunity. “I know it’s been long we qualified for the Olympics but this is a new phase and we have to focus on it.”
Furthermore, she said; ” the girls are ready, we know what it takes and we know everyone is expecting us to qualify. We are in good spirit and the coach is very confident in us and we hope to qualify this time.”
The Super Falcons’ last Olympic appearance dates back to 2008, where they competed in China but exited during the group stage. With Ethiopia eliminated in the second round, Nigeria faces the pivotal challenge of overcoming Cameroon to advance to the final qualification stage.
A triumph in this crucial qualifier would set the stage for the Nigerian women’s football team to face another formidable opponent in the next phase, two months from now.
