Rinsola Babajide and Gift Monday were a force to be reckoned with, but UD Tenerife Femenino fell short in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad Femenino in the Spanish Women’s League.

The Nigerian duo combined throughout the first half, creating several golden chances. In the 2nd minute, Rinsola Babajide had the first opportunity of the match but her right-footed shot sailed just over the bar. 6 minutes later, Gift Monday also missed a golden opportunity to score. Her right footed shot after a corner kick from Yerliane Moreno narrowly missed the target. Their connection continued in the 18th minute, when Gift Monday’s right footed shot after being located by Rinsola Babajide again narrowly missed the target..
Tenerife’s dominance continued with Monday turning provider for Jassina Blom, but her shot couldn’t find the net. Monday herself spurned another chance in the 35th minute, sending a right-footed shot off target. Despite their attacking prowess, Tenerife couldn’t capitalize on their dominance.
Early in the second half, Real Sociedad capitalized on Tenerife’s missed chances. Nerea Eizagirre put the visitors ahead after a well-placed pass from Cecilia Marcos.
Both Nigerians continued to combine well in order to get the equalizer for Tenerife. In the 52nd minute, Rinsola Babajide’s left footed effort from outside the box after a nice head pass from Gift Monday sailed just wide. Again in the 56th minute Rinsola Babajide’s right footed shot was blocked after Gift Monday located her with a pin-point cross.
The defeat drops Tenerife to 9th in the league table, with Real Sociedad moving up to 8th. Rinsola Babajide, Gift Monday, and their teammates will be determined to finish the season strong. They’ll look to bounce back next week when they face Athletic Bilbao Femenino.
