Paris Saint-Germain Women delivered a resounding statement of intent in the Arkema D1 Féminine with a commanding 4-1 victory over Montpellier at home. Nigerian international Jennifer Echegini was among the standout performers, scoring a crucial goal in an emphatic performance that underlined PSG’s title ambitions.

From the opening whistle, PSG took control of the game with their fluid attacking play and high pressing. Their early dominance was rewarded in the 23rd minute when Grace Geyoro opened the scoring. The PSG captain capitalized on a defensive lapse from Montpellier to fire home a precise finish, setting the tone for a long evening for the visitors.

Jennifer Echegini, the Nigerian Super Falcons star who joined PSG earlier this season, doubled the lead in the 35th minute. The dynamic forward showed her predatory instincts, latching onto a well-timed through ball before clinically slotting past the Montpellier goalkeeper. Her celebration was filled with passion, reflecting her growing influence in the PSG squad.

Montpellier attempted to regroup after the break, but PSG remained relentless. Sakina Karchaoui, a former Montpellier player, added to their misery in the 65th minute, finishing off a well-worked team move to extend the lead to 3-0.

As the game entered the final stages, Lieke Martens and Sandy Baltimore combined to set up Echegini for what looked to be her second goal, but the Nigerian’s effort was saved. However, her involvement in PSG’s attacking sequences was a clear indication of her increasing confidence and chemistry with her teammates.

With three minutes left on the clock, Dutch forward Melchie Dumornay delivered an inch-perfect cross that was met by Romee Leuchter, who made no mistake from close range, sealing PSG’s fourth goal of the night.

Despite being outclassed for most of the game, Montpellier managed to pull one back deep into stoppage time. Nguéléu’s well-taken goal in the 90th minute was little more than a consolation as PSG had already sealed all three points.
