: Monday, Babajide, and Okoronkwo Shine in Spanish Primera División Thriller
Tenerife Femenino’s Super Falcons trio of Gift Monday, Rinsola Babajide, and Esther Okoronkwo were the driving force behind their team’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Real Sociedad Femenino in the Spanish Primera División on Sunday.

The game started brightly for Tenerife with both Monday and Babajide actively involved from the get-go. Monday earned a free-kick in the 7th minute, while Babajide nearly set up Jassina Blom for a goal with a superb pass in the 16th minute.
Despite their bright start, Tenerife conceded the first goal in the 20th minute. However, the Super Falcons duo showed their resilience, combining in the 26th minute for Tenerife’s equalizer. Babajide provided a pinpoint cross for Monday, who headed home beautifully.
Monday continued to be a menace for Real Sociedad throughout the first half. She played a key role in setting up another Blom chance in the 29th minute and narrowly missed scoring herself with a left-footed shot.
The second half continued to be a rollercoaster of emotions. Sociedad grabbed two more goals, seemingly putting the game out of reach. But Tenerife, inspired by their Nigerian contingent, refused to give up. Blom pulled one back in the 69th minute after a fantastic team move.
Rinsola Babajide made way for her compatriot Esther Okoronkwo in the 85th minute, and Okoronkwo’s impact was immediate. She came close to scoring with a header in the 88th minute and caused constant problems for Sociedad’s defense.
Okoronkwo’s persistence paid off in the dying moments of the game. Her brilliant headed pass found María José Pérez, who slotted home the equalizer in injury time to secure a dramatic 3-3 draw for Tenerife.
The draw leaves Tenerife in 10th position on the league table, but with the Super Falcons trio firing on all cylinders, they will be looking to challenge for silverware this season. Their next test comes in the Copa de la Reina, Round of 16 on January 14th, 2024, against Real Oviedo.
The Super Falcons of Tenerife once again proved their immense talent and fighting spirit. With Monday, Babajide, and Okoronkwo in their ranks, this team is capable of achieving great things.
