18-year-old Nigeria Striker Esther Ajakaye has penned a deal with Kansas City Current, becoming the fourth African player on the team.
The former FC Robot Queens forward, joins the ranks of Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga, South Africa’s Hildah Magaia, and Kenya’s Adam Jereko, creating a formidable African quartet in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
This move not only underscores Kansas City Current’s commitment to fostering diverse talent but also highlights the growing influence of African players in global women’s football.
Ajakaye’s pace, power, and eye for goal have made her a rising star, and her addition is expected to bolster the team’s attacking options significantly.
In a strategic move, Ajakaye will spend the current season on loan with Caroline Ascent FC in the USL Super League.
This stint will allow her to gain valuable playing time and further hone her skills before stepping into the competitive NWSL spotlight.
