The Super Falcons will receive comprehensive support as they prepare to compete at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in July, according to Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau. He dismissed concerns suggesting the federation has neglected the team’s needs ahead of the continental showpiece.
Nigeria’s Senior Women’s National Team is set to return to action this Tuesday with an international friendly against Cameroon, their first outing since a narrow 2-1 defeat to France last November at Stade Raymond-Kopa.
Despite missing four FIFA international windows, which left the team idle, Gusau was eager to set the record straight about the federation’s commitment.
“Before heading to the Nations Cup, the Super Falcons will have a training camp in Portugal, where they’ll face the Portuguese national team,” Gusau revealed.
“They’ll then proceed to Morocco for a seven-day camp before linking up with the rest of the tournament teams. We’re providing them with all the preparation they need.”
Gusau also disclosed that the NFF has bolstered the technical crew with new additions, including a physical trainer and a video match analyst from Sweden, as part of efforts to strengthen the team’s readiness.
“We’re not leaving them behind. By the grace of God, this time they’ll come back with the trophy,” Gusau confidently declared.
Nigeria will be making its 15th WAFCON appearance and remains the competition’s most decorated side with nine titles to their name.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Justin Madugu, the Super Falcons will begin their quest for a record-extending 10th title, La Decima in a group featuring Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.
