Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade put on a strong performance for Atlético de Madrid Femenino on Sunday in the match day 23 encounter of the 2023-24 Spanish Liga F against rivals Athletic Club Femenino, despite her team’s unfortunate loss by a lone goal.

Fresh off her heroics in Nigeria’s Paris 2024 Olympic qualification triumph over the Bayana Bayana of South Africa, Ajibade started the game with determination and vigor, spearheading Atlético de Madrid’s attacking efforts.
In the 7th minute, Ajibade came close to giving her side an early lead with a left-footed shot that was blocked after a great cross from Eva Navarro. However, despite her efforts in the early stages of the game, Athletic Club Femenino managed to score a goal in the 17th minute through Clara Pinedo, assisted by Ane Azkona.
The former Robo FC attacker came close to an equalizer with a header that went just over the bar in the 24th minute following a cross by Ainhoa Moraza.
Throughout the first half, Ajibade remained a constant threat on the left flank, winning free kicks and creating scoring opportunities for her team.
The Super Falcons captain continued to fight for her team, winning another free kick in the 57th minute after enduring some rough tackles. However, despite Ajibade’s efforts and her teammates’ attempts, Atlético Madrid couldn’t find the equalizer, resulting in a narrow 1-0 defeat.
Despite the loss, Atlético de Madrid Femenino maintains its position in 5th place on the Spanish Women’s League table, closely followed by Athletic Club Femenino.
Looking ahead, Atlético de Madrid Femenino will be eager to bounce back and keep their top 4 hopes alive when they face Real Betis next weekend.
